Tung Flower Footpath

The tung flower which symbolizes Hakkas, according to the geographical environment of tung tree growth, most of them are distributed in Hakka mountains and forests in northern Taiwan, which is just same as the geographical area where Hakkas live.
Besides, tung trees like to grow on the hilly lands, hillsides and barren yellow-red soils, even that the worse the growing environment is, the more beautiful the flowers bloom, which is consistent with the Hakkas' spirit of “Take things as they come”.
At the end of spring and the beginning of summer in April and May of every year, the tung tree flowers in Miaoli are in full bloom, like pieces of snow, covering the hills. When in the tung tree forest and looking afar, you can see that the mountains are like white snow, and when you looking up, the white and small tung flowers are on the top, and the breeze blows gently, and the flowers are falling quietly; holding a flower in hands and stepping on the white path covered full of tung flowers, you can feel vaguely that happiness is blooming around you like tung flowers! In the mountainous area to the north of Miaoli, because of the widespread planting of tung trees introduced during the Japanese occupation, so many tung tree clusters were formed, especially in Hakka villages around Hsinchu and Miaoli.
Around 2001, by chance, this Tung Flower Footpath was visited by Mr. Zhang Xinmin, Director of the Second Engineering Institute of Soil and Water Conservation Bureau. He promoted the rural transformation plan and assisted local construction and environmental improvement. The community used the religious donation money of Shengheng Palace to return to the society, purchased 3 hectares land on Yundong Mountain, and built a community park to plant tree species such as incense cedar and tung flower, thus forming the Tung Flower Footpath.
