The Ancient Road of Exiting Custom is located among Gongguan Township, Dahu Township, Sanyi Township and Tongluo Township in Miaoli County. The ancient road starts from the Chu-Huang Keng(out of the pit) in Gongguan Township and ends at Guandao Mountain in Sanyi Township, and passes through Shifendong, Xinbaierfen Mountain, Yundong Mountain and Jiangmayuan (Shengheng Palace), because of which, it’s named as the Ancient Road of Exiting Custom.
During the Japanese occupation era, the Ancient Road of Exiting Custom was an important trail from Gongguan Township in Miaoli to Guandao Mountain in Sanyi Township, which was about 20 kilometers long. However, due to the long-term neglecting, most of the road sections have disappeared into weeds. At present, only the middle section of the ancient road, which is about 3.5 kilometers long from Jiangmayuan to Shifendong, has been renovated. Along the road, there are normal trees, towering ancient trees and beautiful scenes, just like staying in the green tunnel. The fresh air is full of refreshing phytoncide. After the renovation, rare plants are planted on both sides of the ancient road, in addition there are also super-large sweet potato and palm tree leaves, which make travelers passing through here feel amazed.
You can hear the sweet birds sound and see beautiful and energetic butterflies here. When the breeze blowing in the mountains, the leaves which are falling from the treetops form a very beautiful portrait of the forest. Travelers who love nature and the ancient road must come here to roam.
